A friend of mine once described ice cream as simple, frozen joy and I couldn’t agree more.

There are few things that outweigh a locally-sourced sugary reward at the end of a jam-packed day. Luckily, Ketchum gives everyone access to this kind of sugary goodness every day, all summer long. So go scratch your itch for a frozen treat! Here are our favorite ice cream shops in Ketchum.

LeRoy’s Ice Cream

The ice cream hub of Ketchum, LeRoy’s is located in Ketchum’s Town Square (across the street from Atkinson’s Market and behind Starbuck’s). This easy to find, easy to love ice cream shack will bring you back again and again so get in line and enjoy what LeRoy’s has to offer. LeRoy’s operates with local goodness in mind – all of their ice cream is made at one of our favorite local organic creameries, CloverLeaf Creamery in Buhl, ID.

In addition to ice cream, the menu also offers frozen yogurt, sundaes, root beer & orange floats, and chocolate-covered bananas. And while the ice cream is fabulous and the service top notch, the real selling point of LeRoy’s Ice Cream is that 100% of the profits are split amongst the following organizations in the Wood River Valley:

  • Blaine County Schools Foundation
  • The Community School
  • Ketchum Parks Department
  • Pioneer Montessori School
  • Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation

This is truly a guilt-free ice cream eating experience. Stop by between the hours of 12:00pm and 10:00pm any day of the week.

Glow Live Food Café

Glow is a 100% organic, vegan, and live food (synonymous with raw food) café located on at 380 Washington Avenue. Their smoothies are both good and good-for-you (so is the rest of their menu for that matter!).

If ice cream really doesn’t sit well with you, or you prefer a healthier alternative, stop in and order up a smoothie off the menu and add in any of the available extras to make your drink exactly how you want it. My personal favorite is Monkey Love, mostly because it uses cacao as one of the three ingredients.

Toni’s Sun Valley Ice Cream Co.

Toni’s dream as a little girl was eating more ice cream– and she turned that dream into reality. She is now the proud owner and creator of Toni’s Sun Valley Ice Cream, and, if you’re an ice cream aficionado, you would be remiss to pass up the opportunity to try this local food creation. While Toni does not have a storefront, you can find her ice cream by the pint at Atkinson’s Market in Giacobbi Square and at the Village Market on Main Street.

If getting a pint seems too indulgent, snag a scoop at the following restaurants located in Ketchum: Rico’s Pizza and Pasta, Sushi on Second, Grill at Knob Hill, Perry’s, Christina’s, or The Ram in Sun Valley.

So eat ice cream, then stop by the Limelight’s community lounge during evenings. We’ve got a fireplace to warm you back up.
